I can't believe there are only 4 weeks left. I sent home progress reports last week. I still need some students to bring in the signed paper. Tuesday is the final due date for the paper to be signed and turned in to me.
We are planning to finish our math books by Friday. We will continue having review lessons over the next 3 weeks. I also want to introduce a few new concepts that they will learn in 5th grade. This class has been great, and we have exceeded my goals this year. In reading, we will start with chapter 11 in our Holes book. They will have some reading homework this week for the book. In science, we will be be going over the body in Chapter 13. We will start this week studying lesson 4. We will have spelling words and vocab words from our Holes book.
This year is winding down fast. Please make sure your child turns in all homework on time. This is super important. I don't want the next 3 weeks to be a waste of time. Let's use the next 3 weeks as a springboard into 5th grade. Let's give it all we've got.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact me at mandienschool@yahoo.com.

Thank you,
Mrs. Wallace

Newsletter Aims Week

Dear Parents and Students,

AIMS Testing begins this week. This is a super important week for your child and our school. In order to be successful on this test, students need adequate rest, full tummies, and an alert mind. Please make sure that your child goes to bed earlier this week. There will be no homework this to make sure that students have no excuse to stay up late.

During the aims week, we will be doing several different experiments in class. I will need your help bringing in items for the experiments. Also, we will need healthy snacks for this week. The only required item that each student needs to bring is a white t-shirt in their size. We will be making “I Survived the Aims Test” T-shirts. We will wear these on the following Monday and take a picture.

Thank you for all the responses for the items we will need in class. I will send home a list today or tomorrow listing the things that we still need. I can already tell you that only one person has signed up to bring T-Shirt paint. I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend.

Although last week was a short week, we accomplished several things. We focused on Aims review and finished CBM testing. We will begin with Math Lesson 85 this week. We will also finish reading the book Double Fudge. In English, we will then be going over rules for adding commas. In science, we will start talking about simple machines. In history/geography, we will going over how to read different types of maps. We will also continue practicing for the aims test. We will take time out each day for about 10 minutes to go over flashcards. We will also take about an hour each Friday to review. This is the time to drill those multiplication and division flashcards at home. Success cannot be achieved through class work only. It seems that November and December have flown by so quickly. It is time for our Christmas Party. It will be Tuesday, December 15th at 11:00. I am asking the students to bring in food. I have heard that some of you are excellent cooks. I can’t wait to try it firsthand. It doesn’t have to be a specific type of food. I wanted to let the students and parents bring what they want to bring this time. I have a microwave so if something needs to be heated up that would be fine. If you want ideas, or to know what everyone else is bringing, I can let you know Monday afternoon.

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend. We had a great week last week. I am looking forward to another great week of learning.

Last week we read about the“Tyrannosaurus.” Each group created their own dinosaur. They named it, told what it weighed, and told what it ate. I was very impressed by the creativity. In Math, we continued to cover adding and subtracting decimals. We also talked about dividing with remainders. In English/Writing, we began discussing verbs. In science, we began discussing weather.

This week we will be reading about the wooly mammoth. In Math, we will begin with lesson 55. In English/Writing, we will continue talking about verbs.

Several things are coming up in the near future. The Thanksgiving Feast is the first thing on the list. Our 4th grade class is responsible for bringing the gravy. I would like for each student to bring in a jar of gravy for the feast. Please send in a jar with a lid or a can with a pull up top. I also need for parents to bring in crockpots or warmers for that day.

The Christmas program will be the next thing on the list. I believe the christmas program will be on December 9th. I am still unsure about the times. Our class will be performing “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” We already have several ideas for our performance, but any ideas that you may have would be welcomed. Also, if any one wants to volunteer to help with hair and costumes, that would be great. I am really excited about this performance. We have already started practicing the music. I hope that each of you will make plans to join us.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at mandienschool@yahoo.com or mwallace@lpatucson.org. Also, check out our class blog at http://mrswallacelpa.blogspot.com.

Important Note:
I will be taking a few personal days due to medical reasons on November 23rd- December 4th. I have a wonderful substitute named Mr. Noah that will be filling in for me those days. I have everything well planned and laid out for him. The students have had Mr. Noah as a substitute before, and they loved him. I will be able to be contacted by email during that time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at mandienschool@yahoo.com.

Spelling List: Words with long O
1. clothes
2. total
3. oak
4. ocean
5. obey
6. throat
7. pony
8. poem
9. coach
10. coast
11. goes
12. almost
13. only
14. comb
15. motor
16. hotel
17. soap
18. zero
19. toe
20. program
Homework: Monday- Spelling 3xs each
Tuesday- Spelling Sentences
Wednesday- ABC order
Thursday: Study for Test

Newsletter

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend. Projects/Reports can be turned in as they are finished. Extra credit will not be given for turning them early. I want the projects/reports to be neat and creative. Points will be given for creativity, neatness, facts, pictures, and accuracy. Make sure that this is turned in on time. It will be a letter grade off for each day it is late. The students will have a chance to work on their projects during computer time on Wednesdays. Please let me know if they need more computer time at school to work on this project. I will make sure they get the time they need either before or after school.
Science/Writing:
Monday, September 28th- Amphibian Poster/Report: The poster must have at least 10 pictures and 10 facts. All facts must be in a complete sentence. You may use the internet to get all pictures and facts. I will give students an outline for the written report on Monday. This will count as 2 test grades.
Friday, October 2nd- Reptile Fact Booklet: Place a picture of a reptile on the front cover. There should be at least 10 facts about reptiles in your booklet. The booklet can be as small or as big as you want, but be creative. We have plenty of construction paper in our classroom that can be used for this project. The students have made booklets for the different chapters of our reading book, so they should have an idea of what I am looking for. Extra pictures would be great to put in the booklet. All facts must be in a complete sentence. Remember be creative. This is worth 2 test grades.
History/Research reading:
Monday, October 5th- Poster/Report of about one of these Indian tribes: Anasazi, Hohokam, or Mogollon: The poster must have at least 10 pictures and 10 facts. There also needs to be a written report for the tribe you choose. I will give your child time during computers to work on this project as well. This will count as 2 test grades.
Math: Grocery Store Math
Tuesday, October 6th- This is a super easy and fun way to make a 100. I will give your child a grocery store math sheet on Monday. Read and follow the directions on the paper. You do not have to buy the items on the list. This is also a great family project. This will make grocery shopping with the family fun and exciting.

Dear Parents & Students,
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Help Class is not manditory, but if your child is struggling in an area, it is suggested. Help class will focus on each individual child's struggles. It will provide help in Writing, Math, and Science. If you would like for your child to stay, please send in a note giving them permission. I will not force a child to stay for help class. Thirty minutes will go by fast, so I want to help those that want and need help.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at mandienschool@yahoo.com or mwallace@lpatucson.org. I want to say a big thank you for coming to Open House. I enjoyed having a chance to meet and talk with you. My students loved showing you their desks and self-portraits. If you did not get a chance to come, but you would like to meet just send me an email or note.

We have had an exciting week of learning. Next week, we will will continue to cover animal classification. In math, we will begin with lesson 9. Please continue to practice the multiplication tables with your child. We will be working on Multiplication Table 4 this week. In writing, we reviewed the 4 types of sentences. Ask your child to tell you the 4 types and what sound they make.
