Christmas Party Information
I can’t believe next week is the last week before break. It seems that November and December have flown by so quickly. It is time for our Christmas Party. It will be Tuesday, December 15th at 11:00. I am asking the students to bring in food. I have heard that some of you are excellent cooks. I can’t wait to try it firsthand. It doesn’t have to be a specific type of food. I wanted to let the students and parents bring what they want to bring this time. I have a microwave so if something needs to be heated up that would be fine. If you want ideas, or to know what everyone else is bringing, I can let you know Monday afternoon.

Dear Parents and Students,
I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend. We had a great week last week. I am looking forward to another great week of learning.
Last week we read about the“Tyrannosaurus.” Each group created their own dinosaur. They named it, told what it weighed, and told what it ate. I was very impressed by the creativity. In Math, we continued to cover adding and subtracting decimals. We also talked about dividing with remainders. In English/Writing, we began discussing verbs. In science, we began discussing weather.
This week we will be reading about the wooly mammoth. In Math, we will begin with lesson 55. In English/Writing, we will continue talking about verbs.
Several things are coming up in the near future. The Thanksgiving Feast is the first thing on the list. Our 4th grade class is responsible for bringing the gravy. I would like for each student to bring in a jar of gravy for the feast. Please send in a jar with a lid or a can with a pull up top. I also need for parents to bring in crockpots or warmers for that day.
The Christmas program will be the next thing on the list. I believe the christmas program will be on December 9th. I am still unsure about the times. Our class will be performing “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” We already have several ideas for our performance, but any ideas that you may have would be welcomed. Also, if any one wants to volunteer to help with hair and costumes, that would be great. I am really excited about this performance. We have already started practicing the music. I hope that each of you will make plans to join us.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at mandienschool@yahoo.com or mwallace@lpatucson.org. Also, check out our class blog at http://mrswallacelpa.blogspot.com.
Important Note:
I will be taking a few personal days due to medical reasons on November 23rd- December 4th. I have a wonderful substitute named Mr. Noah that will be filling in for me those days. I have everything well planned and laid out for him. The students have had Mr. Noah as a substitute before, and they loved him. I will be able to be contacted by email during that time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at mandienschool@yahoo.com.

Projects/Reports
Project/Report Due Dates
This was given to your child on Monday, September 21st. Projects/Reports can be turned in as they are finished. Extra credit will not be given for turning them early. I want the projects/reports to be neat and creative. Points will be given for creativity, neatness, facts, pictures, and accuracy. Make sure that this is turned in on time. It will be a letter grade off for each day it is late. The students will have a chance to work on their projects during computer time on Wednesdays. Please let me know if they need more computer time at school to work on this project. I will make sure they get the time they need either before or after school.
Science/Writing:
Monday, September 28th- Amphibian Poster/Report: The poster must have at least 10 pictures and 10 facts. All facts must be in a complete sentence. You may use the internet to get all pictures and facts. I will give students an outline for the written report on Monday. This will count as 2 test grades.
Friday, October 2nd- Reptile Fact Booklet: Place a picture of a reptile on the front cover. There should be at least 10 facts about reptiles in your booklet. The booklet can be as small or as big as you want, but be creative. We have plenty of construction paper in our classroom that can be used for this project. The students have made booklets for the different chapters of our reading book, so they should have an idea of what I am looking for. Extra pictures would be great to put in the booklet. All facts must be in a complete sentence. Remember be creative. This is worth 2 test grades.
History/Research reading:
Monday, October 5th- Poster/Report of about one of these Indian tribes: Anasazi, Hohokam, or Mogollon: The poster must have at least 10 pictures and 10 facts. There also needs to be a written report for the tribe you choose. I will give your child time during computers to work on this project as well. This will count as 2 test grades.
Math: Grocery Store Math
Tuesday, October 6th- This is a super easy and fun way to make a 100. I will give your child a grocery store math sheet on Monday. Read and follow the directions on the paper. You do not have to buy the items on the list. This is also a great family project. This will make grocery shopping with the family fun and exciting.
